Many of you know me, and you know my mission: To stop torture as the law, policy and practice of the United States, and to push to ensure that those responsible at the highest levels are held legally accountable.
Tonight, I'm going to ask you to help me with my mission, by helping to put Darcy Burner, a true progressive, in the US House of Representatives. How does that help my mission? By giving me someone to talk to when I go to Washington to lobby on behalf of this issue who will actually listen.
Imagine going to the halls of Congress to talk about torture and accountability and having to talk to, for example, Trent Franks about it ? or Peter King ? Imagine the difference in having the privilege of talking about it with Darcy Burner ?
The long arc of history does bend towards justice, but to do that there must be people in power who will listen. YOU can help put one of those people who will actually listen into power. Yes, YOU !
The mission of Daily Kos is to push for the election of more and better democrats.
So, how do we do that?
There are lots of answers to that question, but one of the ways is to help finally get Darcy Burner where she belongs, in the US House of Representatives, as the Congresswoman for the 1st District of Washington State.
YOU have an opportunity to help that happen !
Our beloved SaraR is creating a quilt that has been signed by many, many, many Kossacks. They have donated the quilt to be raffled off to benefit Darcy Burner's campaign.
So you can do two wonderful things at once: have an opportunity to have one of Sara and Ann's lovely and loving quilts, complete with comments and signatures by some of you favourite Kossacks, and have an opportunity to support the election of a true progessive candidate for Congress.
The entire month of July will be a quilt fundraiser for Darcy Burner, candidate for Congress, WA-01. There will be a drawing for the quilt signed in Providence at NN12 the first week in August. Everyone can get one chance per day, each and every day in July by EITHER donating $10 or more to Darcy Burner's campaign through a special Act Blue page which I will post on July 1, OR by writing a 50-word-or-less essay on this topic: How can we bend the arc of history more towards justice for all?. Send essays to winglionquilts AT gmail DOT com with "Darcy Burner" in the subject line. To recap, earn an equal chance once a day every day in July by either donating or sending a short essay (one or the other), every day in July. That means everyone can have as many as thirty-one equal chances in this drawing. The first week in August, I will find a neighborhood child to do the drawing and someone will become the new owner of the quilt.
Quilt stats: It will be about 66" square, sleeved for hanging. The fabric is cotton, the batting a fine wool. I am quilting it by hand and am more than a half done. It will be finished by the end of July.

It would be great to have a diary every day in July about this fundraiser and about different aspects of Darcy Burner's campaign -- lots of issues to choose from! I have set up a group for these diaries, -- so follow the group so as not to miss any! If you will be writing a diary, I will add you to the group.
Here is a quilt fundraiser diary schedule for July. Please let me know in the comments if you would like to post a diary. Thank you!
