King James Version
Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Wives must be subordinate to their husbands, practice the same faith, and non-virgins were stoned to death. When I say "stoned", I mean the gruesome and painful death of having baseball sized rocks repeatedly thrown at you. Oh, and don't forget, these "traditional" marriages were normally arranged, not the product of two people in love.
Genesis 38:6-10
6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
7 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.
8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.
So, if husband dies, the widow's former brother in law becomes her husband who is impelled to impregnate his brother's widow. She, of course, must submit to this rape.
How are you liking this Genesis version of "Traditional Marriage"? Look below the squiggle with two orange backs for other fun bible verses.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29
28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
This is going to go over great at ChikFilledHate. The rapist of an unmarried virgin who is caught in said rape, has to pay a dowry and marry the young deflowered virgin. The virgin, of course, has no say in this matter, she has to submit to a lifetime of husbandly rape. Cooking and cleaning up after him is not explicitly spelled out, we'll just assume it is inferred. Or is it implied?
Exodus 21:4
4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's....
This is about slaves in the household. A master may give a "slave wife" to his male slave and get the extra advantage of a new generation of little slaves to serve him. "Hey, go get me a beer, I'll time you!!"
I don't think "Traditional Marriage" means what those fools lined up at ChikFull'O'Hate today think it means. (Paraphrasing the Great Swordsman Inigo Montoya)
Anyone lining up in the hot August sun in "support of Traditional Marriage" today can choose the bible verse above they most agree with. I imagine husbands and wives in "Traditional Marriages" will differ in how to interpret the "Bible Based" passages.
And don't get me started on the concubines and virginal prisoners of war and the many many references to polygamy.
