DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too!
The Group Project
Last week glorificus initiated our next DK Quilt Guild group project. The current plan is to create TWO new quilts, with the hope that one can be sold at Netroots Nation 2013 in San Jose, while the other may be sold online, to make it available to more potential buyers.
We would like donations of 12.5" blocks that will finish at 12", made up primarily in oranges and blues. From Chinton on the first quilt:
Bottom line use what’s in your heart and in your fabric stash. You can use solids or prints, batiks or floral, contemporary or reproductions prints. Think of this quilt as a celebration of diversity.
We do request that
all fabrics be washed before sewing. Hand-dyed fabric, including batiks, will have to be extensively washed before using it any part of the quilt. Hand-dyed fabric can have the color bleed into all the rest of the quilt upon first washing. Wash until a piece of white cotton accepts no more dye and test water remains clear, when the dyed fabric is dunked in the water.
Also, if at all possible, blocks and quilt/s should be made in a smoke-free environment. We don't want a quilt going to a buyer if it smells like smoke.
Each quilt will be made in a 3x4 layout, similar to the one this year. This means we will need 24 blocks in total. The following people have volunteered to do a block:
Melanie in IA
vtgal
Florene
mayim
pucklady
mommyof3
frosti
OurMissEwenice
Earth Bear
Comment below if I missed your name, or if you would like to volunteer and aren't already on the list. I only see 9 names. Hopefully we'll have more than that.
BeadLady has volunteered to quilt for us again. THANKS!
Diarists Schedule
For the next few weeks as this project gets off the ground, I'd like to reserve every other week's diary for glorificus so she has the chances she needs to discuss details and progress. She and I can confer behind the scenes. If she doesn't need the day, I can put up a diary. BUT we still need diarists for the other weeks.
8/26 -- OPEN
9/2 -- glorificus or Melanie in IA
9/9 -- Pam from Calif
9/16 -- glorificus or Melanie in IA
9/23 -- vtgal
9/30 -- glorificus or Melanie in IA
Let me know in comments or in a message if you will do the diary for next week! Thanks as always.
