I knew that MittBot 2012 came with rock and hard-place included, but who knew the same would apply to Todd Akin?
It appears that whichever way Akin goes, some GOP bigshots are gonna be pissed off.
If he stays, he pisses off the establishment: The National Review, Sen. Scott Brown, Sen. John Cornyn, RND Head-Reince Priebus, Sean Hannity, Mitt Romney, Tea Party Express and Karl Rove (Crossroads) ALL have condemned his candidacy to death.
But there are supporters...........
Family Research Council Action PAC president Connie Mackey supports Akin and says:
"We feel this is a case of gotcha politics," Mackey told reporters outside of the Republican National Committee's platform committee discussions. "He has been elected five times in that community in Missouri. They know who Todd Akin is. We know who Todd Akin is. We’ve worked with him up on the Hill. He’s a defender of life. He’s a defender of families and this just a controversy built up, I think, it looks as though, to support his opposition.
It's only "gotcha politics" when
WE do it to
THEM. What a wimpy thing to say.
Anyway, Mackey sounds pretty darn sure of himself, don't he.
On the other hand..............
"I don’t know anything about the science or the legal implications of his statement. I do know politics, and I know gotcha politics when I see it," Mackey added.
Uh-huh.
Family Research Council President, Tony Perkins also supports Akin. He goes a little further and issues a direct THREAT to Scott Brown:
"For other Republicans, I have not seen Scott Brown’s statement, but he should be careful because based on some of his statements there may be some call for him to get out of his race," Perkins added.
Asked what he was referring to, Perkins said that Brown has been "off the reservation on a number of Republican issues, conservative issues."
"His support among conservatives is very shallow," he added.
Thus far, calls for Akin to quit race = The National Review, Sen. Scott Brown, Sen. John Cornyn, RND Head-Reince Priebus, Sean Hannity, Mitt Romney, Tea Party Express and Karl Rove (Crossroads)
Calls for Scott Brown to quit race = 0 (with one threat)
Once more, the cracks in the teabagger/religious-nut alliance are showing!
Popcorn futures are up, up, UP!
