Ah, the optics of Mitt Romney. As the Republican nominee tries to re-introduce himself to the American people, he does this:
Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.
The exclusive event, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.
"I think it's ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn't even pay its taxes," said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.
Must have been a nice time, given the luxurious nature of the yacht:
The Cracker Bay is owned by Gary Morse, developer of the Villages retirement community. Companies controlled by Morse gave nearly $1 million to the pro-Romney Restore Our Future superPAC. Registered in the Caymans, the Cracker Bay has an impressive art collection and can seat 30 for dinner.
[UPDATE:
Yes, this is a very nice boat indeed.]
No words on whether the "Cracker Bay" was chosen to underline the campaign's steady message of race-baiting, nor whether the two racist goons who were ejected from the RNC for throwing nuts at a CNN camerawoman were invited. Still, gotta hand it to the man for summing up his candidacy so well:
Millionaires on a yacht? Check.
No idea who these contributors are? Check.
Yacht registered in the Caymans? Check.
Is Mitt Romney working for David Plouffe? He couldn't be doing a better job for him.
