{just for tonight...}
Most eerily, at least for me, Sept. 11, 2001 was a Tuesday, and (check local listings), the weather was identical to what it was that was that horrible day - sunshine, blue skies, slightly cool in the morning, etc. Feel free to share any thoughts or remembrances in the comments if you'd like.
Meanwhile, to get my vengeful streak on a bit (which is why what I do is called Buddhist practice)...
Now, on to "this day in history" - other than the obvious. On this date in 1962, the Beatles recorded their first single, "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You," at EMI studios in London. Man, I sure like their post - LSD stuff better! ;D On this date in 1985, Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds recorded his 4,192nd hit, breaking Ty Cobb's career record. Again, boys & girls, he ain't goin' to Cooperstown! Finally, in a shout - out to my fellow 1971er, happy "turning 20 again + 1" to our Great Orange Satanic Leader!
If someone will give this guy a shove, we can dig in. :D
Let's get our SPARK on! Talk about commitment... ;D If y'all really really really really really really love me, you'll send a gross of these to my office STAT with cheesecake chasers {damn drool}! Now, why didn't I think of one of these to get me through that first week of classes - and pretty much every day these days?!
On with The Rachel Maddow Show...
"U.S. Gov Buildings Attacked in Libya & Egypt" - I missed the first couple minutes of the show but know about what happened earlier today. 1 American might be dead. So, the 9/11 date a coincidence?
"...Another Distraction" - Oh please, let Gov. Mittwit have said today that 9/11 is a "distraction." THAT'LL win him the election! I have absolutely no recollection of GWB's speech the night of 9/11/01; I imagine I had other stuff on my mind. Ceremonies today at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and the field in PA commemorated that day that's going to be etched in many a memory. No politics came from President Obama, VP Biden, etc. today. Gov. Mittwit, however, well...I don't call him MITTWIT for nothing. He spoke to National Guard troops today & had, again, precious little to say about the danger facing our troops abroad. The MENSA folk are calling foreign policy a "distraction" because the economy's so craptacular. Ah...memories...remember when those folk thought their foreign policy creds would win them hearts, minds, and elections? Pay no attention to the fact the aforementioned MENSA folk had OBL in their sites - literally - and let him get away by taking troops out of the area where everyone knew he was. AND, pay no attention to the fact that the current sitting Kenyan Muslim socialist who loves arugula but doesn't like doughnuts POTUS gave the kill order. A couple of GWB foreign policy "specialists" from the GWB years are working for Gov. Mittwit now since they did so gosh - darned well before. The Project for the New American Century really creams in their jeans at the thought of war. They probably have a shrine & statue of DICK in their lobby. A whole bunch of we, the people want out forces out of Afghanistan yesterday; over 2/3 of respondents to a recent poll don't think the war in Iraq was worth fighting. Less than a third of respondents think military spending shouldn't be cut. Basically, the "foreign policy" from the previous occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is the cranky uncle at a holiday meal that everyone wishes would just go the spark away.
"...Another Distraction PART DEUX" - Michael Lewis wrote a profile of President Obama for Vanity Fair; he spent 8 months with him & was allowed incredible access. Much discussion involved the handling of questions of war, peace, when to fight, etc. Questions of domestic policy aren't quite so clear; it doesn't help when the House is controlled by those who would rather tank the country then see President Obama succeed & when the Senate Minority "Leader" came right out & said he would make sure President Obama was "a 1 - term President."
"Imminent" - Ugh...I don't know if I can handle a segment about how the previous administration sparked up pre - 9/11/01 intelligence (worse than we even thought). And, I REALLY don't need to see that picture that went along with the segment title. Kurt Eichenwald is the author of a book that describes just how badly things went - beyond that August 6 memo that GWB told the deliverer of said memo that his a$$ was now covered. People responsible for bringing all the intelligence to the previous administration demanded transfers immediately because they knew nothing would be done, and they would get the blame. Ari Fleischer calls Mr. Eichenwald a "9/11 Truther". Well...yea...whatever...
