It's hard being a political spouse says Ohio Governor John Kasich. He appeared, unscripted, at a Cincinnati event for Romney and Ryan.
While the menfolk are on the trail doin' the campaignin' and other serious stuff, the wives of Gov. Kasich and Romney and Rep. Ryan are at home doing the laundry and minding the kids.
So when Romney and Ryan invited Kasich to speak – without any prepared remarks – at their rally near Cincinnati today, could they really be surprised when he let loose another crazy comment?
In this little clip from the speech, Kasich talks about his (“hot“) wife, and the wives of Romney and Ryan, and the reasons they couldn’t be at the event today:
“They’re at home doing the laundry” and “at home taking care of the kids.”
Last year Kasich defended his very low number of female cabinet appointments by talking about his family life, claiming he makes all the big decisions in his family and his “wife makes all the minor decisions”.
Kasich pays his male staffers 56% more than his female staffers. One member of his 9 member JobsOhio board (which awards incentives to Ohio businesses) is female.
I don't know anything about Kasich's wife, but as far as the other nominees go - Ann Romney doesn't do laundry and Janna Ryan is an accomplished tax attorney, who actually has had a real job in the private sector, unlike husband Paul Ryan.
Mitt Romney has a serious gender gap, with President Obama leading Romney by 12 points among women. Romney badly needs help among women. Perhaps this might not be the way to get it.
