Look, here's how it is.
In 2007 Bill in Portland Maine, the founder of the C&J community and author of Cheers and Jeers, lost his day job. He had a choice: to walk away from this community while he found a new day job or to stay and write Cheers and Jeers for a living.
You know what he chose. And you know what to do:

Follow me below the orange thing that no one can agree on a name for, and we'll talk about this some more.
Here's how it is: The man has been working for us for five years. He hasn't gotten a raise, if anything his income has dropped as contributions have slowly declined.
Not your fault, I know. Republican economy. I, myself, can't give him enough to cover what he needs. Still, we have to pull together. We have to do what we can to get Bill a living wage, so he can keep this up for us.
Other, better diarists have been funny. They've shown beautiful photographs, told moving stories, shared touching moments, challenged you with matching donations and recommend drives.
I can't do that. Moody Loner. I'm like the dancing bear of Daily Kos - you're not supposed to be moved by my writing; you're supposed to be amazed that I can do this at all. I'm a lousy photographer, I don't have any money to match donations or put in per recommend, and if I have to tell one more moving story about the disasters of this past year I'll unfollow myself.
All I can do is to tell you how it is. And how it is, is that things are tight for Bill and Michael and they could use our help. I know you are good people, you've proven it over and over with me, so I know we'll be able to help Bill together.
All I ask is that you scrape up what you can, which is what I'm going to do when this posts. It won't be much, but together our "won't be much"es can keep this community going.
We're in the home stretch now. Upcoming C&J Blogathon posts:
