I've been hearing a lot of people talk about how vicious and cruel the Islamic peoples are who protesting around the world are. How could they possibly react like this to something as trivial as a movie? Don't they know how much money we send to the Middle-east? What a bunch of savage ingrates! How Dare They?
People like Joe Scarborough.
Scarborough added: “You know why they hate us? They hate us because of their religion, they hate us because of their culture, and they hate us because of peer pressure.” He said that anyone who believes “we’re going to go over there and change them” is “naive.”
They are the ones with a culture of religious intolerance and hate? Really?
Yeah, well - how soon we forget. (Martin Scorcese and the Last Temptation of Christ Controversy and Protests)
And then there was this.... (Sinead O'Connor Protest Sexual Molestation in the Catholic Church by ripping a picture of the Pope)
Yeah, people's hatred over her criticism of the pope and rampant sexual abuse of children within the church ended Sinead O'Connors career. Nice priorities there.
Then there's these guys. (Dixie Chicks Dare to say their ashamed of George W. Bush)
And we know how when movies or musicians speak out in a controversial way - people "understand" - even when what they have to say can be pretty insulting and rude.
Or even when it isn't that insulting. And it doesn't involve a religious figure, but instead someone else they "worship". (Bomb and Death Threats against Time Warner and Ice T for the Bodycount song "Cop Killer" - even Arsenio received threats simply for putting Ice on the Air)
There are lots of Sacred Cows out there.
Lots.
