Poor Tom Coburn has a case of the wahs and needs some cheering up because being a Senator just ain't what it's cracked up to be.
“On Monday mornings when I get up, I get up about 4:30 to catch a flight to come back up here. And I’ve noticed that I have an attitude problem, I don’t want to come anymore,” Coburn said in a statement on the Senate floor. “And the reason I don’t want to come anymore is because we’re not doing anything to address the real problems that are in front of our country.”
Wah. I wanna just quit cuz of stoopid Republican obstructionism. And that is a noble thing Tom. You should quit. We'll open the door, pay for the cab and serve you drinks on the long flight back to
Oklahoma.
“We’re ignoring the real problems so we can create political contrasts, for an election all the while the country is sinking, sinking and sinking,” Coburn said.
Really? Politicians are working to divide the country? Say it ain't so Tommy. That would never happen in an America where women and gays and minorities and immigrants were just allowed to be EQUAL would it? Those types of issues wouldn't ever be used to divide the country would they? And certainly not during a time when the nation is "sinking, sinking, sinking."
Refresh my memory Mr. Senator, do you looooooove the troops? Do you haaaaaaaaaaaaaate obstructionism? Then what is this?
If you can't remember I am more than happy to refresh the old neural network:
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) said these types of pay-go bills are part of the problem of the growing national debt.
“The question in my mind is, will we at some point in the future recognize the hole we’re in,” Coburn said on the floor Wednesday. “When we find ourselves in $16 trillion of debt and we pay for a five-year bill over 10 years, we make the problem worse.
But, Senator
Coburn doesn't mind spending money for the troops...as long as the "support" is aimed at the defense industry. So, while I don't discount the soldiers needing new and better equipment...I'd prefer to spend the money
at this time on making sure the kids that we've shipped to a needless hell can come home and find a job instead of being labeled a 47%er by people who love them some duplicitous Tom Coburn.
Hypocrisy is the homage which vice renders to virtue. --François de La Rochefoucauld, Maximes
Mr. Coburn is correct on the fact that "we are not doing anything to address the real problems" facing the nation. Why? Hypocrisy is the menagerie within which the media and government choose to sleep together. Truth is no longer a fungible commodity within the walls of power. The ability to lie or distort and then completely reverse track on either has become the norm. The voter/consumer/citizen is left in a perpetual state of confusion as to what the fuck is actually happening in Washington. No one trusts the media and Congress polls at a 10% approval rating.
So stop Tom. Stop claiming to love the troops while voting against them. Stop whining about spending while seeking votes for your own pet bills that require superfluous spending. Stop talking the talk if you aren't willing to walk the walk.
If you want to be a real Senator Tom...stop elevating abortion as the most dire threat facing the country. Stop allowing your cohorts to attempt to redefine rape. Stop the bullshit and obstruction and keeping track of the D v R scorecard like it was some fantasy sport. The idea of a non-homogenous government is that each player will get elected on their own (or party) platform but that when they take office they will work with their opponents to come to a mutually beneficial compromise where all sides feel comfortable that the best possible arrangement has been made on behalf of their constituents and not on behalf of themselves. That isn't what is happening, Tom. Your side has decided that politics is all that matter. Fuck the citizens. Fuck the world in general...so long as one side, your side gets to claim victory. The nation doesn't need a majority Dem or GOP govt. The nation needs a govt filled with Sane and thoughtful people with different ideas and plans that will work together to meld those ideas and plans into legislation that moves the country forward rather than holds the country ransom for purely partisan reasons.
We deserve better Tom...and you can start. Break ranks with your stringent party and work with Democrats to return our government to one of functionality rather than one of snafu'd gridlock.
