No Voter ID will be required in the November elections in Wisconsin.
The state Supreme Court on Thursday declined - for now - to take up lower court orders blocking Wisconsin's voter ID law, the latest sign the law likely will not be in place for the Nov. 6 presidential election.
So we're "safe" for November, but the State Supreme Court has indicated that they may take up the issue in the future once there are rulings in all the cases that have been filed against the Voter ID Law.
As I posted back in August, JD Van Hollen, Wisconsins Republican State Attorney General, again asked the State Supreme Court to revisit their earlier refusal to hear the Voter ID case. However, instead of shutting the door on hearing the case as they did last time, this time the door has been left open for future review.
This comes on the heels of Reince Priebus, Party Leader and Republican Troll, announcing his plans to again buy Wisconsin elections using the "tools of the trade" they used in 2010 and in the 2012 recall elections: money and outside groups harrassing voters.
Touting their ability to win on the ground with volunteers going door to door and over the air with a boost in television ad spending, Republican leaders said Thursday they have revved up an aggressive campaign to claim the state in the fall for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
"The commitment to you all is we're going to see Wisconsin through to the end," Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said during a conference call with volunteers.
Priebus, the former head of the state GOP, added that he had just approved a $4 million television ad buy for Wisconsin and several other states.
"We're ready to win in Wisconsin," said Gov. Scott Walker.
They're ready to "buy" Wisconsin.
The dirty tricks organization True the Vote is bussing in "observers" whose job will be to challenge voters in Democratic areas.
Of course, we're not sitting on our hands here. GOTV is already in high gear here.
"Given that Mitt Romney is mired in the roughest three-week stretch of a GOP presidential campaign in history, it doesn't surprise us at all that they would tout unverifiable (voter contact) numbers that have nothing to do with restoring economic security for the middle class," said Gillian Morris, press secretary for the Obama for America campaign in Wisconsin.
Unions and real grassroots organizations are already canvassing and phone banking not just national elections, but working to get Tammy Baldwin and other Congressional Democrats, as well as state office candidates into office. It's important that those activities start now as abscentee ballots are being mailed out. Early voting starts October 22.
Sooooo - don't just sit there. Do something. All hands on deck. Nows the time and many organizations are ready to sit you in front of a phone or provide you with materials for door knocking. If you can't get out of the house, talk to neighbors and call family and friends. Make sure they're supporting the right candidates and will vote.
Solidarity.
