Thanks to redistricting and Christie Vilsack, an exceptional candidate, now is the time to replace national embarrassment Steve King. Polls show that the
race has tightened.
Today's Mason City Globe-Gazette has three letters supporting Christie Vilsack. All are from counties that were part of the old Iowa Fourth Congressional. King currently represents Iowa's Fifth Congressional District. While the letters of course represent only an individual opinion, I think it's important to recognize that many Iowans have no use for King's antics.
If you have the means please consider contributing to Christie Vilsack's campaign.
Continue below the orange squiggle for the letters.
The first letter is from Belmond (Wright County) and points out that Vilsack will be the first woman Iowa has sent to Washington. Note that two cities in the new fourth (Mason City and Ames in Story County) have historic links to the famed woman's suffrage leader Carrie Chapman Catt. Catt was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames and served as the superintendent of schools in Mason City. Catt campaigned for decades for the right of women to vote and after the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, Catt founded the League of Women Voters.
SEND VILSACK TO CONGRESS
As first lady of Iowa, Christie Vilsack traveled all over the state visiting upward of 500 libraries, championing the cause of literacy. As a teacher and librarian she has been in a position to help bring the future to Iowa’s children.
My own short stint as a teacher taught me that anyone who can get up in the morning to face a room full of other people’s children is no coward.
Iowans have a proud history of leading the way in so many areas and yet we have fallen behind in this: Along with Mississippi, Iowa is one of only two states which has yet to send a woman to Washington.
Please don’t miss the irony of this statistic: A state with the proud history of leading the nation in literacy on a par with a state with one of the lowest literacy rates. I appeal to the voters of the new 4th District to look the future in the eye and send Vilsack to Congress.
The writer of the
second letter is from Mason City (Cerro Gordo County).
VILSACK A FORCE TO CONTEND WITH
I’m writing to encourage all citizens of the 4th Congressional District to vote for Christie Vilsack for Congress.
I first met Christie when she was in Mason City campaigning for her husband, Tom Vilsack, for governor. She is a tireless worker and one of the most personable people I know.
With the animosity and rancor at the highest levels in memory in the U.S. Congress, Vilsack is the type of person we need to stabilize our country and the horrible situation in Congress.
Christie is extremely well-educated and well-spoken. She has a great handle on the issues. She has championed the causes of education, literacy and helping to solve the problems in our society associated with unplanned pregnancies.
Although she is probably more comfortable in small-town Iowa, she is certainly a force to contend with in Washington D.C., as well. If elected, she will bring her problem-solving ability and her homespun charm to Congress and will work with others, across the aisle to get things done.
The writer of the
third letter is from Klemme in Hancock County.
VILSACK SUPPORTS FARM BILL
It doesn’t take much examination of Steve King’s record in Congress to see that it’s time he be retired and we send Christie Vilsack to the U.S. House to represent the newly drawn 4th District.
King refuses to support the Farm Bill that has been supported by all other Iowa congressional representatives and many of his Republican colleagues.
King should be doing everything in his power to build support for the Farm Bill. Unfortunately, he isn’t even willing to support a discharge petition that would allow it to come to a vote in the U.S. House where the Republicans have political control.
The 4th District deserves someone like Vilsack who is willing to fight for agriculture and the rural economy. King should be voted out of office for not taking care of our agricultural needs in the 4th District.
