This is going to be short. I just got a tweet from our friends at PPP that is very interesting.
Here it is: "@ppppolls: We started 5 state polls- some public, some private- and a national poll last night. What they're looking like: 2008"
Fairly cryptic. Could it be a reference to this moment in 2008, when Obama received a tiny bounce coming out of his convention? Or to the point after both conventions, when McCain actually held a brief lead? Or, and this is what I'm guessing, are the folks at PPP seeing some real separation between the two candidates similar to what we ultimately saw in 2008?
Having followed PPP's pronouncements about their polls pretty closely, I'd expect them to say if what they were finding showed no evidence of a bounce. Instead, by mentioning 2008, I think (hope) they're being coy, letting on that so far, Obama is looking very good as we head into the fall campaign. We'll see.
