Yes, I know it's not very original, a New Year's Resolution diary on New Year's Day, but I have my reasons. And they're somewhat selfish ones, to tell you the truth.
Goal setting is something I generally do with my kids at the beginning of each school year. I gave up making New Year's Resolutions a long time ago. I didn't see the point since we started working on new goals a few months earlier. But we skipped our goal setting this year and I find myself needing to make a formal commitment. Furthermore, it has been proven that sharing a Resolution with someone else makes it more likely that you will fulfill them.
If you want some help keeping your resolutions this year, why don't you share them with us in the comments below. Mine are below the fold.
Angelajean's New Year's Resolutions:
1. Improve my Spanish. Yes, moving to Ecuador will be a huge motivator but I have specific goals I want to meet. I want to post on my Facebook page at least a few times a week in Spanish (to help improve my writing and my idiom) and to read Spanish daily, whether online or from a book. You have permission to ask me about my Spanish reading schedule! If you're friends with me on Facebook, you can join in the Spanish fun if you want!
2. Establish a new blog for travel writing and travel photography - I'm currently in the exploratory stages of trying to find a home for a new blog. I love writing for Kossacks but my travel writing is the least read here and I have family and friends who are not politically motivated to join DailyKos and want to leave comments on my writing. So, by the time we move to Ecuador in August, I want to have a home for my travel writing that non-Kossacks can comment on. I may or may not crosspost but I definitely need to expand my writing horizons. In order to reach this goal I need to - choose a home (eBlogger, WordPress, Photoshelter), establish goals for improving my photography skills; establish a writing and publishing schedule.
3. Better organize two groups here on DailyKos so that we have more effective writers that self-publish without prompting - EducationAlternatives and Military Community Members of DailyKos. I really want to have two groups that produce great material but without a top down leadership structure. The goals within this resolution are to better communicate with the people who already write for each group to better understand their personal goals; to communicate with the non-writers of each group to find out why they don't write and if they are ever interested in writing; to study other groups, especially those that publish a weekly series, to find out how they keep writers writing and how many writers they need to establish a good series.
How about you? What are your hopes, dreams, plans for the next few months? Can we help you reach them? Do you want us to ask about your goals every once in a while here in the MOT? If you tell us what you need, we can help be a part of the solution!
