Just a short diary to say that, if the Al Jazeera English network is anything to go by, America has done well with the takeover of Current TV by the Al Jazeera people. This is not to say that I don't appreciate the commentators on Current, and I do hope they all get another gig in broadcasting or politics real soon. But Al Jazeera does something that needs deeper pockets to pay for it that Current ever had and that is to do really fine actual reporting from an independent perspective.
Now it a fact well known around the world that Americans have great difficulty accessing Al Jazeera (AJE for short) on cable. Today's action byTime Warner Cable, reported in another diary, is pretty terrible and does the reputation of the US as an allegedly free country no good at all. So, Kossacks, do yourself a favor and jump onto the AJE website. My own experience suggests that downloading the shows can be a bit tedious at certain times of the day, suggesting bandwidth issues, but patience will be rewarded.
