This new PPP poll in Texas shows that while Obama remains unpopular and the NRA remains popular, even in pro gun Texas a substantial plurality no longer see the logic of continuing to sell Assault Weapons to anybody who wants one.
Texans support assault weapons ban
Overall on the issue of guns Texans say they trust the NRA over President Obama by a 47/43 margin.
And despite all of that 49% of Texas voters support an assault weapons ban to just 41% opposed to it. Texans support assault weapons ban, mixed on CornynMost Democrats support it, independents favor it by a 53/34 margin, and even among Republicans 23% support it. We've found support for the assault weapons ban everywhere we've polled it, but it's particularly striking to see that voters favor it in a pro-gun, anti-Obama state like Texas.
Polls with results like this one may be enough to embolden some in the congress on both sides of the isle to defy the NRA's position staked out by the NRA's leadership since many of the folks in their core regions of support no longer go aloung with the NRA's rigid absolutist positions.
This news comes on a day when Gabby Giffords message on guns is the top story across the country and the office complex shootings back in Giffords' home state is the 2nd story.
