Happy Friday again, beer lovers! Come in and share a cold one!
I'm sure some of you aren't football fans, but the NFL has blown their championship game up into a huge pop culture event that's bigger than just football. Advertisers bring out special commercials; big name stars perform for pregame and halftime, and all over America people treat it as a good excuse for a party.
This Sunday will be roughly my 25th almost-annual Super Bowl party, and a couple of the friends attending have been to all of them. It's a fine excuse for eating and drinking, like we needed one. Some people even watch the game. For a long time it was a house rule NOT to watch halftime, but since they've been having really significant acts that has changed. I didn't want to watch Madonna last year but was overruled by the guests.
I'm in the Bay area, where the level of 49ers fan frenzy is pretty impressive. I'd forgotten how much fun it was.
Since the game is being played in New Orleans, I decided to get some NOLA beer. The best known Louisiana craft brew is Abita; I'm told that in New Orleans Abita Amber is on tap everywhere, like SNPA is here. I got some Amber and some "Jockamo" IPA, which should be just the thing along with my gumbo.
If you're having people over and want some food ideas, here's a good diary.
Jay Brooks suggests some SF and NorCal brews for 49ers fans; the Weekly Pint also knows about Baltimore beer.
Tonight I'm going to try some of that Jockamo IPA, then probably Celebration. What are you drinking?
