"The unveiling happened today, because it is the 47th anniversary of William Moore’s murder. Moore, who was a former Marine and postal worker, was an outspoken advocate for civil rights. It was on his solo march to the governor's office in Mississippi that William Moore was gunned down by an unknown assailant along a remote road in Alabama. Moore's name is listed on the Civil Rights Memorial in Atlanta, Georgia."

"Along the way, he encountered plenty of hate. Some people threw rocks at him and yelled “n—– lover.”
On the night of April 28, 1963, while resting on his journey in Attalla, Ala., he was shot twice at close range. Kennedy called his killing “an outrageous crime.” "
A friend broght him to my attention when his plaque was unveiled.
And there was a movie.
My friend's uncle worked with Mr. Moore in the local USPS. May he rest in peace.
