SALEM, Ore. (AP) — When the Legislature convenes next week, a Senate committee will hear public testimony on a proposal to allow people with post-traumatic stress disorder to get medical marijuana cards.
Proponents say the drug could help veterans with PTSD manage their symptoms. They say some people with PTSD already have medical marijuana cards due to other medical conditions.
Oregon law allows people with specific medical conditions to apply for a medical marijuana card, including Alzheimer's, cancer, glaucoma and AIDS. The bill would add PTSD to the list of conditions that qualify.

I have PTSD and I smoke pot. I have smoked pot, on and off, for most of my life. I don't drink or smoke tobacco.
I am a combat veteran of Vietnam, an ex-paratrooper. I started out as a grunt with the 101st, then volunnteered for recon. I was a lrrp---5 and 6 man recon teams out surveying the HCM Trail. Sometimes there would be ambushes, pitched battles, a lot of gunfire. It was the same kind of slicing and dicing stuff as in Band of Brothers but I was in combat longer than anyone in Band of Brothers was. It was a different war but I was there in the worst years, doing one of the riskiest jobs. Go figure. Youre only going to get killed just so dead in any war.
War took a toll on me as I think you can see from the photo below---thats bout as good a picture of the 1000 yard stare as you'll see. It took me a long time to lose that look.
Sometimes after patrol I would just lie down untill I stopped shaking. And sometimes it took me a long time to stop shaking. so I'd smoke pot. It was that or booze. Anything to make the brain waves stop. anything to take me away.
I smoke pot now when I feel the need and I don't apologize for it or go to any length to hide it. I do it---live with it! I do.
I think pot is the best thing for PTSD.
I hope they make pot legal for PTSD here in OR but I don't think I want a card anyway. I don't need their permission to do this and it would take a lot of the fun out of it. When I started it was a revolutionary act. Still sorta feel that way about it. .
