I've seen them some. On shows. On 60 Minutes. Now Rachel's show. I mean they are a definition of what a "good" mom is.
I often talk about my mom here. Even at 43 myself, my mom is about my best friend. I mean she is my mom. She also always had my back. Time and time again.
I recall being bullied in the 70s. Don't even think it had a name then. When she called the school and they did nothing she found the kids parents, and well maybe bullied their parents. She was like 4'10, but you don't fuck with my mom when she gets something in her head.
Heck I was thinking, I don't think I ever played a sports event, and I played a ton, where she wasn't there. Honestly I hated it at the time, but I now know it was a show of both support and love.
She is a rock star.
When I see these parents talk about the death of their kids I cry. Sure part of it is cause, well it is just darn sad. But more than anything I recall what my mother said the day after Newtown. She isn't a liberal, but said:
I can't imagine you riddled with bullets. Something has to change. It has to change now.
If I was gunned down in a school, heck just gunned down, my mom would yell 24/7 about it. Like most moms. People could attack her, but she wouldn't care. She'd be out on the street. On any news show that would take her. She would not let it stand.
I am not saying you would do less. But lets face it, these Newtown families and their mom's are rocking it. They won't let it stand. They are willing to go out and fight.
When I see them do it I think to myself, well that there is a little (or a lot) of my mom in these women!
