Republican Mark Sanford, the disgraced former Governor of South Carolina who is now running in the special congressional election in the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina, allegedly trespassed at the home of ex-wife Jenny Sanford:
Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford must appear in court two days after running for a vacant congressional seat to answer a complaint that he trespassed at his ex-wife's home, according to court documents acquired by The Associated Press on Tuesday.
The complaint says Jenny Sanford confronted Sanford leaving her Sullivans Island home on Feb. 3 by a rear door, using his cell phone for a flashlight. Her attorney filed the complaint the next day and Jenny Sanford confirmed Tuesday the documents are authentic.
The couple's 2010 divorce settlement says neither may enter the other's home without permission. Mark Sanford lives about a 20-minute drive away in downtown Charleston.
As you may know, back in June 2009, Mark Sanford disappeared for nearly a week, and Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer told the media that Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail. Several hours after Sanford returned to the United States, he admitted to being unfaithful to his then-wife and having a romantic relationship with an Argentine woman. Sanford's wife subsequently filed for divorce, and the divorce was settled in 2010.
Now, Sanford, for reasons that are at this time unknown, allegedly trespassed his ex-wife's home in violation of the divorce settlement, which states that neither Mark nor Jenny may enter the other's home without permission. Sanford must now appear in court two days after the May 7 special congressional election in the 1st District of South Carolina.
This is NOT how a congressional candidate should conduct himself. Normally, the Republican nominee should be able to win the 1st District of South Carolina without much difficulty, but the fact that Mark Sanford is untrustworthy and downright creepy is one of several reasons why Democratic nominee Elizabeth Colbert-Busch can win.
