As you probably know by now, the Senate voted 54-46 to defeat a bipartisan amendment to expand background checks for gun purchases, effectively killing the bedrock of new gun control legislation that Democrats, notably the President, have been pushing since the horror at Newtown Elementary.
Despite overwhelming support for gun safety/control legislation, these four Democrats stood with the republicans to block democracy and the will of the people.
Mark Pryor of Arkansas
Max Baucus of Montana
Mark Begich of Alaska
Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota
What these four did was disgusting, shameful and reprehensible.
Perhaps it's time we take a page from the teabaggers and start threatening a primary.
I don't know about you, but I've had it.
Had we stood together, tonight's evening news might've sounded something like this:
"All 58 Democratic Senators voted in favor of background checks, while not a single republican voted in favor of the bill."
With across-the-board support on this legislation, the backlash would have been felt.
But we'll never know because, thanks to the four betrayers, opposition was "bi-partisan"
Shame on our country and on our party for allowing this.
I stand with the families of senseless gun violence.
