Let's give a boost to Battleground Texas this weekend!
In case you haven't heard, this is what Battleground Texas is about:
Who's Afraid of Battleground Texas? The Texas GOP
At a lunchtime speech on this past Monday, Greg Abbott, the Attorney General of Texas, said that "the state of Texas is coming under a new assault, an assault far more dangerous than what the leader of North Korea threatened when he said he was going to add Austin, Texas, as one of the recipients of nuclear weapons." Well, that sounds frightening. What could that assault possibly be? "The threat that we're getting," Abbott said, "is the threat from the Obama administration and his political machine." Wait. What?
Abbott is referring to a new political activism group called Battleground Texas that was launched earlier this year by Jeremy Bird, a former national field director for Obama's presidential campaign. Bird and his colleagues at Battleground Texas want to slowly transform the state of Texas from red to purple to blue. They want to make it a battleground state alongside Florida, Ohio, and Virginia.
The Texas GOP seem very concerned about this possibility.
While the gun nuts and conspiracy theory loons gather in Houston this weekend to the tune of 70,000 strong, let's send the message that we will not be bullied or intimidated.
We will fight for rational gun safety laws, real democracy and an end to right-wing politics based on hate, fear and lies.

78 days. In just 78 days our grassroots supporters have blown past the Texas GOP on Facebook. Just this morning we tipped the scales at 21,566. And we're not done yet.
Battleground Texas is a local effort with national implications.
Texans are carrying this movement and its success could change the face of presidential politics in this country as we know it. With 38 electoral votes at stake, a blue Texas would be a surefire road to the White House.
Change does not come easy, but taking the harder road for a better future is what our state is all about.
Texans are ready.
Our organizing strategies will work in Texas.
Battleground Texas will be a people based, metrics driven organization that is dedicated to the idea that volunteers, in their neighborhoods, can and do significantly impact local, state and national elections.
As a people based organization, we are focused on leadership development, training and empowerment. We work with volunteer leaders to ensure they have all the skills they need to successfully recruit new volunteers and register, persuade and turnout voters.
As a metrics driven organization, we understand the importance of accountability. We regularly measure our progress and hold ourselves to the goals we set. We also use data extensively to ensure our programs are having an impact.
