Bryan Fischer is a troglodyte. That much was already beyond doubt. But earlier today, he showed just how much of a troglodyte he is. He led off the second hour of today's edition of Focal Point with a simple--or should I say simplistic--solution to ending the rash of sexual assaults in the military. In Fischer's view, women shouldn't be allowed to serve at all. No, I'm not kidding.
Fischer's "rationale"? Since men have far too many temptations living in close quarters, the only real way to remove that temptation is to keep women out of the military altogether. So by Fischer's logic, women are so frail and dainty they can't protect themselves against sexual predators in the barracks. Yeah, okay.
In the same segment, Fischer also called for gays to be banned outright--and apparently with none of the "don't ask, don't tell" rigamarole either. His evidence? An op-ed in the New York Times that reportedly claimed 90 percent of all sexual assaults are committed by "serial homosexual rapists." There's just one problem--the actual piece, which ran in yesterday's Old Grey Lady, said that 90 percent of sexual assaults are committed by men with previous histories of assault. But of course, the majority of Fischer's audience lives in a bubble, so they probably don't even read the NYT for themselves.
