I bet Mitt Romney's teachers must have found him quite a handful, because judging by his current antics, he was never a simple "the dog ate my homework" kind of guy. No, Mitt's got a lot of excuses on hand and now he's rolling them out one by one as he tries to explain why he lost the election he was so sure he had in the bag (remember how "shellshocked" he was at his defeat?). So far he's blamed both Hurricane Sandy and lack of money, both of which are patent B.S. (especially the latter...what, you couldn't get the Koch brothers to spot you another few million, Mitt?). And, of course, how could we forget the original excuse he gave in the wake of his defeat, that Obama won by bribing folks with all sorts of goodies. Ever creative is Mitt, especially in trying to avoid blame.
But now, here's perhaps the most hilarious excuse Mitt has come up with. Why, you may ask, was he so sure he was going to win despite all evidence to the contrary? Because of this:
In addition to a slew of polling that, in hindsight, ended up heavily skewing towards his campaign, Mitt Romney pointed to comments made by a "leading Democrat" who thought the former Massachusetts governor defeated an incumbent president one week before the polls closed on November 6.
"I spoke with a leading Democrat, one of the top leaders of the Democratic party and he said, 'I thought you had won, one week out,'" Romney told Fox News' Neil Cavuto on Friday.
Really? And who was this "leading Democrat" and why would he be talking to you like this a week before the election? He didn't say. (Did Mitt never think that perhaps this "leading Democrat" was punking him?)
Mitt, just because Dick Morris worked for a Democrat once does not make him a Democrat. (If you'd just spoken to Nate Silver, he might have saved you the trouble.)
And the Mitt Excuse Tour rolls on. What will he think of next?
