(Cue "Twilight Zone" music) It's Sunday!
The Grand Floral Parade didn't get rained on yesterday. It's normal for it to rain here till the Rose Festival is entirely over, but it isn't this year! It looks to me like they have decided to wrap a few events for Pride Week into the Rose Festival. I may have misread what I was looking at, but this is Portland, Oregon, after all.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
On May 30, a cougar was spotted in one of the parking structures where I work. Not an older woman dating younger men - a mountain lion.
The main headline on The Oregonian on June 7 was about one of the elephants at the Oregon Zoo being diagnosed with tuberculosis.
Both of these are odd and worrisome, but that is all that I know about either one. So, follow me over the orange whatever for some silliness about my offspring.
My grandson is 17 months old now. He has a 7-year-old sister to keep up with, so he is working really hard on talking.
Last month I figured out why he calls me "MOM". It's because when his mother (he calls her "Mom"), who is my daughter, calls me for any reason whatsoever, pretty much the first thing out of her mouth is "MOM". Someday, he will catch on that I am "Grandma" - and maybe my daughter will stop barking at me when I answer the phone, too.
Last Sunday, I went over to my daughter's for a few minutes (living across the parking lot works out real handy sometimes), and he was throwing a fit. He was yelling and crying and my daughter said that she had no idea what was wrong - nothing she had tried had dealt with what was bothering him. He is ordinarily a rather sunny-tempered kid, so letting him cry under those circumstances wasn't something she considered a particular hardship.
I looked at him for a minute and said, "You're upset because we don't know what you're trying to tell us, aren't you?" He looked at me, said, "Yeah", and stopped crying.
I think this one is going to keep his mother hopping.
My granddaughter is never again going to pitch a fit over going to school. She and her father both learned what their lives are worth on that score. I promise, I kept my face entirely straight - but then, the homework wars didn't start till fourth grade with my first.
She made me a Mother's Day card - no surprise (she gets it from both sides of the family), but she is a really good artist for a 7-year-old kid. It was mostly My Little Ponies. And I'd bet money that she as no idea that I know what a Power Puff Girl is.
