It's June, so that means Oregon's
Summer of Love has started, and for the next three days, you can celebrate and have your donation doubled.
Oregon United for Marriage is launching its Summer of Love—our outreach effort to build support for the freedom to marry for all Oregonians. It starts at our Summer of Love Kickoff events all across the state. We’ll be identifying new supporters, training volunteers and gearing up to collect the 116,284 signatures that are needed to put the freedom to marry on the ballot. With the Supreme Court poised to rule on two cases about marriage, let’s make June the most historic pride month ever! [...]
In Oregon, because of Measure 36, we can’t win marriage for same-sex couples through the courts or through the legislature. The ballot is our only remaining option. That’s why Oregon United for Marriage is building a broad coalition of individuals and organizations to win marriage for same-sex couples in Oregon.
Here's your chance to help, and to have your effort doubled. Until
midnight Wednesday, June 12, the national organization Freedom to Marry is matching contributions to Oregon United for Marriage. Evan Wolfson, Freedom to Marry's founder and president, writes via email:
Freedom to Marry has been on the ground working with marriage advocates in Oregon since day one because we know that together, with a smart and well-funded campaign, we can make Oregon the first state to amend its constitution in favor of the freedom to marry.
Even though November 2014 may seem far away, Election Day will be here before we know it. And if we can continue running the robust door-to-door, face-to-face field program talking about why marriage matters to same-sex couples over the next 17 months, I truly believe a majority of Oregonians will affirm the freedom to marry.
Early money now will help get all the necessary signatures to get the initiative on the ballot, but also help Oregon United establish a strong field campaign. And for the next three days, early money will be doubled!
Please contribute now to Oregon United for Marriage to help organize for 2014.
