Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
We have set a date of Saturday, July 20, for the next meetup, with a start time of 1:00 or so; and we'll be at the Bywater once again. So, use the comment section for planning and for any questions you might have. If you're planning to come, or if you're a maybe, please let RandallT know so he can put you on our list of attendees. You can see the list on each day's "New Day" diary; currently we have twelve planning to attend and five maybe's.
Last Saturday we began discussing the possibility of our group traveling to the state capitol to join and support the Moral Monday protest movement; and in a DKos Asheville diary on this past Tuesday we started in on the planning.
Those who have expressed interest so far are DawnN, gulfgal98, LamontCranston, Audri, and me. Audri says her work schedule is something of a "moving target" and that she would be more of a last minute attendee.
Interestingly, I mentioned the trip to a friend Thursday evening, and she immediately said that she would like to go; and DawnN has reported that her 350.org group is planning a trip as well. This is of course Asheville, but I do hope that folks all over the state are turning their attention toward Raleigh and planning on joining in on the Moral Monday protests.
We still need to settle on a date. DawnN, LamontCranston, and I are all pretty flexible; but we would like to find a date that will accommodate as many who want to go as possible.
After deciding on a date, we need to decide whether we want to return the same evening, or spend the night in Raleigh.
We need to decide whether any in our group want to volunteer to be arrested as part of the protest. If so, then it seems we will need to stay overnight.
There are a few other points mentioned in last Tuesday's diary, but these are the main points we'll need to address first.
Please share your thoughts and suggestions.
And of course, please share any other events going on here in Western North Carolina that you think we might find of interest, and let us know what you're doing and how your gardens are getting along.
And, enjoy your Saturday!
