I'm a lifelong Texan, born and raised here. I've lived here all of my 29... Ok, screw it, 36 years. And I am shocked by what I'm seeing... Follow me below the orange whatever the heck it is for more.
I can't explain it. I couldn't be at the Capitol on Tuesday, but you bet your ass I was watching. Along with thousands of others. And it was something I haven't seen in 10+ years of watching the legislature. A democrat standing up to the Republicans...and a gallery full of Texans supporting her.
I tuned in to Rachel Maddow. I saw stories about Wendy Davis, and a Texas Congressman suing over our Voter ID Law. Texas is all over the news, in a way that amazes me. We are fighting to take back our great state. We are putting the Rethugs on notice that we are watching, and will no longer go quietly into the night.
I am shocked, I am amazed. I am almost speechless, but I will not be for long. It looks like, just maybe, the GOP has finally pushed too far. Democrats are awakening, and people are paying attention. We have Democrats in MY state who are rising stars in our party.
I know I'm not alone, in my sentiments about what is happening, or my resolve to return my state to one where we value education, we respect our citizens and their right to run their own lives, we take care of our needy and our children, we help our citizens with health insurance, and we create good jobs that don't mean people work 2 full time jobs only to still remain in abject poverty.
We will have to work hard. We need to increase voter turnout, we need to ensure people know who and what they are voting for. We need to expose the GOP for the assholes they are. But, for the first time I can remember, I have hope that we can achieve it. And I plan to be on the front lines of this battle... Feel free to join me!
