Those who would like to show their patriotism by seceding from their state in order to form the 51st state of North Colorado, meet at the county fairgrounds in Akron, Colorado today.

They want to rope in some Nebraska and Kansas counties apparently, because those two states apparently don't give their farthest fringes (in all manner of the word) of their state enough love and attention. I wonder why Wyoming counties weren't included, but then again, SE Wyoming has a university so there are probably too many libruls there.
Thing is, they wouldn't have water rights (all their water comes from the librul places like Fort Collins and Boulder and Denver and we won't share) and perhaps even mineral rights might be argued over. They might get their natural gas rights. That will sustain them for a few years. Maybe.
The fact that such a secession would have to be approved by the legislature makes them think it wouldn't work. However, if they really put this on the November ballot, I'd probably encourage the legislature to consider letting these spoiled brats go off and actually examine just how economically unfeasible this whole thing is. And then, should they decide they actually like having state tax monies used to keep their roads paved and services like highway patrol, schools, government offices like county extension agents and the like open and operating, the state might actually reconsider just how much it's worth keeping what is essentially a red state (red as in deficit producing, bigoted libertarian paradise) as part of Colorado.
Now, I would be sorry to see them go - I really would. But I'd really like them to take this a bit farther and actually see how much they need the blue parts of the state. No magic fairy Koch brother (and the Kochs have property up in Aspen, IIRC) is going to come bail them out, either. Then, maybe, they might actually stfu and realize we're all in this together and they can't just throw a temper tantrum and suddenly get their way.
And then, perhaps, they'd set an example for the rest of the red states and these here United States could cease to be red states and blue states, but instead be the United States of America.
Ah, but who'm I fooling. That could never happen.
