Let's review:
George Zimmerman shot and killed Treyvon Martin because he was afraid for his life .... no problem.
Merissa Alexander fired a waring shot at Rico Gray, here abusive husband with a documented record of domestic battery cases .... she gets 20 years because .... she didn't kill him I guess. Either that or she wasn't legitimately in fear for her life... because she
a) returned to the house
b) shot at him before he could lay hands on her again
OK.... anyone care to wager how this case turns out for the defendant:
Dooley, who is 5-feet-7 and weighs 160 pounds, said in his testimony that he shot the 6-foot-1, 240 pound James when he felt his life was in danger because James had his hands around Dooley’s neck and was trying to reach for his gun.
That's his testimony. This happened in broad daylight, what about the
testimony of other witnesses?
"The only consistency in their testimony," defense attorney Ronald Tulin said to the jury, "was that Mr. Dooley walked away. How can you convict him of manslaughter if he's trying to walk away?"
That's a good question....
I mean, here's a 71 year-old man with NO criminal record. Both he and his wife drive school buses. Both he and his wife (of 40 years) have concealed carry licenses in the state of Florida. And everyone agrees the man who attacked him as he was walking away from the fight is almost 100 pounds heavier and 30 years younger.
But Stand Your Ground "Doesn't Apply" .... I realize that consistency is the bugaboo of small minds, but .... really!? What am I missing? I don't see a lot of shades of gray here...
