UPDATE: This thread will continue here
Calling all New Mexico Kossaks! It has been years since we all had a meet-up, despite our organization being one of the earliest of the State-level Kossak groups. There has been a NMKos list serve group for nearly ten years, and NM Kossaks have met up in places as diverse as Land of Enchantment's house, a brew-pub in Santa Fe and another in Albuquerque.
New Mexico Kossaks face a daunting task to gather together, as New Mexico is BIG and mostly empty, with just a few "urban" environments and half of the 2 million people who call it home are scattered all over the landscape. So it takes a real effort to gather us all together.
We don't even know how many of us there are. There are many faces long gone who used to be active Kossaks in NM, and there seem to be many new faces from NM we haven't connected with, who don't even know there is a NMKos community to connect to. Right now there are 18 NMKos members; we had more on our list 8 years ago. Where are landshark, ellisande, wonmug, and many others we used to see?
AFAIK, I am the first NMKossak, and I did organize the earliest gatherings. Kossak lgmcp has steadfastly maintained the NMKos list serve, and I started a NM Kossaks group when the DK4 changeover occurred, but I haven't done anything with it.
I'd like us all to gather up one time this summer, time and place to be decided by the consensus of who responds to this call.
I am going to take advantage of Navajo's energy in promoting local Kos meetings everywhere and hope we can gather in all the NM Kossaks in one place, starting with here on line and hopefully somewhere in our beautiful state. Any Kossak who resides in New Mexico, or has roots/interests there, is welcome to join the NM Kossaks group, (link) which gets us all in communication using established Daily Kos channels. Expect a barrage of "Calling NMKossaks" diaries so we catch the folks who only show up every few days and may miss notice.
Albuquerque is the densest population zone, with a large metro area, and doubtless the majority of NMKossaks are going to be close. That's "only" 125 miles away from me, and some Kossaks are twice that far from ABQ, so that's a real consideration.
If nothing else, let's at least get a headcount and a shout out. If you are not already signed up to the NMKossak group, request entrance via Kos Message to me and we'll get you signed in.
Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you.
