The world may continue to spin on it's axis if nobody in the know reads this, and by doing so, putting the kibosh on all incorrect pronunciations hitting the atmosphere. As I am unable to manage diacritical markings, please go with sad state of affair options below the orange squiggly.
Although I assume that "Kossack" is pronounced like the Slavic warriors from the southern Russian plain region, (audio here), how do I know?
Then there is Daily Kos. I have thought Marcos' name would be articulated with the last syllable sounding like coast without the "t" sound, but am I sure? I knew Marios in New Jersey who were always referred to as Mary-os. And even if it is a long "o" sound, maybe the "s" is more like the "z" in cozy. I couldn't say. Maybe it's Mar-cuss, as a rightwinger would prefer...
Well respected diarists (whom I dearly love) have verbalized a 'kos' sounding more like caws, or cause. Ann nightmare Coulter says caus as though it were the beginning of the word caustic - perhaps subliminally identifying an aspect of her personality disorder. Can I ring in with authority? Hell, no.
So, those who are speculators like myself, do toss in your tuppence. Those who actually have more than a clue, please chime in for a good cause or coast or cozy.
And, yes, I have a day off for a change and have wasted some of it on this idle rather than doing something constructive.
