The NYT today has an article discussing the colossal ego of Chris Christie:
"Governor Christie's Not-So-Humble Thoughts"
http://www.nytimes.com/...
In “Collision 2012,” the New Jersey governor recounts events like a fund-raising meeting in which Henry Kissinger announced, “Your country needs you.”
The entreaties of the Wall St. crowd and the likes of Henry Kissinger to get into the 2012 Presidential race have gone to Christie's head in a big way. The article discusses an inflated ego and narcissism that are almost clinical.
Christie's ego and self-love blind him to the reality that the American people are never going to elect a brusque, abrasive, physically unattractive, and possibly unhealthy slob from NJ as their President. They don't want a President whose instinct is to demonize opponents in a prosecutorial way.
There is no pressing national issue that Christie is providing leadership on, whether it be firearms, climate change, immigration, or healthcare. Christie is more moderate than most Republicans, with a modicum of human decency uncharacteristic of his Party, but he is not a visionary leader.
His real talent, like his mentor George W. Bush, is to exploit shamelessly a national calamity for political advantage, in this case Hurricane Sandy. And he's doing it with money provided by FEMA and the Federal government he so reviles. Christie gets credit for embracing President Obama at the time of Sandy, and therefore tipping the election to him, but it is highly likely he was just looking at Nate Silver or the Princeton Elections Consortium and could see Romney was going to lose, and that Obama had the money he would need to rebuild the Shore.
