First the good news - I don't have to worry about being exposed to anthrax for the next two weeks. That's because yesterday I was put on Cipro for a case of prostatitis that has been flaring up. It was discomforting and annoying, and the meds seem already to be helping.
I am also dealing with ongoing issues of psoriasis, which will probably represent a chronic problem, but application of a steroid cream addresses it fairly easily. And I am being given some assistance for my chronic sinusitis, which had resulted in an almost unbroken condition of post-nasal drip. I have found sucking an ice cube helps, but adding Flonase for a while to my regular consumption of benadryl seems to help. I am hopeful that all of this will be under control before I get my students on August 26.
Of greater importance? Now the better news. Leaves on the current is going to get a temporary time off from chemo. Rather than have only 1 week off beginning on Tuesday, her oncologist is giving her 2 weeks off. She is doing very well on chemo, and her doctor wants to give her a rest. That extended break means that when we go out for dinner she will be able to have a glass of wine, to which she looks forward. And hopefully she will during the hiatus be able to enjoy a few more foods.
The only sour note is attempting to get a decision from the neurosurgeon about possibly fixing her back. We still have not heard a final decision.
In the meantime, we are pleased with how well she has done. Today is July 27th. It has been exactly six months since we were told after her MRI that she had cancer - which at the time we were told was probably metastatic organ cancer, and she stayed in the hospital for almost a week. We are grateful that it was only a blood cancer, and remain hopeful for both remission to the point of being only a chronic condition to be managed, and that her back can be reinforced.
On Thursday she received a handicap parking permit for her place of employment, so she will be able to park in the garage, which enables her to drive herself. Given that I will leave the house at 5:30 for my new teaching job beginning in a few weeks, that was something important to give her flexibility.
We remain as always grateful for the support and prayers you have all given us. We know it makes a difference.
Peace.
