The link is Gawker, but there is video.
Sometimes it is difficult to tell whether the obtuseness of Fox News is real or feigned. This is an interview with Reza Aslan, primarily about his new book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.
The interviewer, someone named Lauren Green, is in disbelief (pretending?) that a Muslim would or could write a book about Jesus. Jesus is a significant figure in the Quran, so the idea of Muslims being interested in, studying, or writing about Jesus is hardly surprising (unless you know nothing or are pretending to know nothing about the subject of an interview you are conducting on television). Because Zealot is a history book, Aslan's explanation is different, but still simple and on point:
"To be clear, I am a historian. I am a PhD in the history of religions. This is a piece of history," Aslan incredulously responds. "I'm not sure what my faith has to do with my twenty years of academic study... I think it's strange that instead of debating the merits of the book, we're actually discussing the right of the scholar to actually write it."
I have to add my favorite comment from the Gawker page, from someone called "Sherlock Homey:"
Ms. Rowling, you are a muggle. Why did you choose to write a book about wizards?
I suppose we can hope that at least one Fox viewer watching this will have understood his simple point and noticed the interviewer's stupidity. The insult, I think, is that she is pretending to be as ignorant as she thinks the average Fox viewer is.
I wonder if any of them noticed that this Muslim author, writing about Jesus, has the same name as the Lion (Christ-figure) in C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. CT anyone?
