If Bradley Manning is mandated to serve more time, over 4000 people have volunteered to serve part of his sentence http://org.credoaction.com/....
However, it is fair to say all of us feel he has already been punished too much.
Our government is seeking to send him to prison for another 90 years. WHY? For having the guts to tell us about the crimes our government is committing in our names. As a result of alerting us to torture and killing, Manning himself has been tortured (according to the United Nations) by the US treating him in a cruel and inhuman way.
My colleague Kevin Zeese has been at the trial and his report as well as the report from Wikileaks can be found at http://www.popularresistance.org/...
Some people are upset about Bradley Manning's statement yesterday. Kevin explained to me why Manning pleaded as he did.
I have seen people do much worse when they are facing decades (or even merely years or less!) in prison. People spy on their friends, entrap them, turn in their colleagues, testify (sometimes falsely) against people close to them. Seeing your life lost, or in Manning's case hanging by the thread of a presidential pardon sometime in the future, is a pretty frightening thing. And once you are in the prison system they can make your existence miserable.
This does not change the importance of what he has done, or the impact his leak has already had. And, it does not change the impact the Wikileaks documents will have in the future which I suspect will be surprising to all of us.
It is amazing to me that throughout the hell Bradley Manning has lived since and during childhood, then again in the military he has retained his integrity as well as the strength and courage to blow the whistle on our government.
