My new favorite song of 2013 (so far) is having its debut live performance Friday at the theater (or theatre, if you prefer) where I volunteer: the Historic Blairstown Theatre -- thehbt -- in Blairstown NJ. Before anything else, the song:
The band is called "Saint Rich" (there may be more than one band using that name - it's a regional thing I suppose). The song sounds a bit (a lot?) like one of the stronger tracks from a "T-Rex" album. But with more socially aware lyrics. I have no idea what the other songs will sound like, but with Steve Marion (whom I recently put in the pantheon containing Erik Satie in this post*) in the band, I'm really looking forward to the rest. An intimate venue such as thehbt gets to know some artists particularly well and to trust their musical instincts. Steve Marion, who first played thehbt with his band, "Delicate Steve" is one of those musicians.
If the community feels this is too spammy, please let me know and I'll delete the diary. But since it's a non-profit and my pay consists of the chips and other salty snacks that the talent doesn't eat, and the occasional beverage, hopefully this will be OK. Admission isn't free, but it's reasonable. And if you mention dailykos at the ticket window, and I happen to overhear you, I'll let you buy me a lager across the street after the show.
best,
john
*Contrary to what I implied in the Satie post, Steve won't be playing the 1955 gray-market Yamaha 9' grand. Its action has seen its last play prior to the scheduled rebuild. I'll miss the not-quite-but-almost rowdy sound, but Vienna Teng is scheduled soon and we want her to be delighted.
ps, While thehbt has hosted one free Democratic Party event, we made the same offer to the local Republicans too. They declined.
