Of course, that's only first hand knowledge, so it's totally unreliable.
I personally hated 24 hour days of fear and paranoia. I don't like really hot weather (Over 120 is too hot for me) and I really, really hate wearing heavy body armor.
I don't like people dying either as a direct or indirect result of my actions. It isn't very nice and I really don't like to think about it after the fact, but my darn brain and moral compass won't let me just forget about it.
(More reasons that I am the wrong person to ask for war votes on the flip)
I don't like seeing other people around me who I work with hurt and injured. You'd think that would be part and parcel with the last point, but seeing others hurt, wounded, or sometimes just gone brings it to you personally even if you're never touched.
I don't like sleeping with one eye open, even when I'm exhausted.
I don't like living in shipping containers and bombed out buildings.
I don't like military bands. Not because of the music they play but because of the 2 hour speech every officer sending you off to war feels obligated to make in order to raise your spirits. That doesn't work, because the speeches all sound identical.
I don't like not seeing my kids for over a year.
I honestly don't like the smell of gunpowder. (Or if you want to get technical, Nitrocellulose.) I was in the artillery and we used a LOT of it.
I don't like the media conveniently forgetting that we exist while we fight and die for years after they have "Done their Job" of selling the war.
I don't like cleaning the M4 in sandy conditions. It sucks. I didn't mind cleaning the M2 BMG however, because it was designed for that kind of abuse. Minor note, please take note ordinance.
I didn't like driving vehicles that are WAY too big for the city streets down city streets and knocking down every phone line in the area. (Way to win Hearts and Minds!)
I don't like seeing barbarism. War tends to bring it out.
I don't like PTSD. It sucks.
I don't like it when certain folks like to tell me that it's WORSE for the other side. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.
And finally, I don't like the fact that we always seem to be ramping up to ANOTHER one.
So in conclusion:
War Sucks. Please take this into consideration when advocating for it.
