The Washington Times reports that the GOP Leadership has refused to call the congress back into session early over the humanitarian crisis in Syria, waiting until the week after next to finish their five week recess as originally scheduled.
Congress in no rush to return for Syria decision
By Stephen Dinan
House Republican leaders said they’ll wait until the end of their five-week summer vacation, which is scheduled to last another week, before coming back to Washington to take up a resolution authorizing the president to strike at President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
“We are glad the president is seeking authorization for any military action in Syria in response to serious, substantive questions being raised,” the GOP leadership said in a statement. “In consultation with the president, we expect the House to consider a measure the week of September 9th.”
John Boehner had said yesterday that he might consider calling congress back early. I'ts not like the House is facing a crowded schedule once they return either since Republican Leaders have only scheduled the House to be in session for only nine days in the whole month of September. House Republicans have set a very lackadaisical schedule by recent standards.
I don't care where you come down on an intervention in Syria, but doesn't our country deserve to have a decision on the matter made in a timely manner? The Party of "Let it Slide" cares more about their damn extended vacations than they do about making a timely decision on a horrific humanitarian crisis. The Republican Leadership owes the American People more than their tired old foot dragging routine.
