Trigger warning.
I'm putting it below the fold it is that bad.
TRIGGER WARNING:
Here a man is initially choked which prompts a uncontrollable neurological response to restore an airway and blood to the brain. It just gets worse from there.
We have police in this country enacting the Stanford Experiment on the public.
Just like the corporations they protect they receive token punishments that do nothing to protect the public from them if they are punished at all.
We can as a society do better. First by contacting your local citizens police review commissions. If you do not have one overseeing your local police than start one. One caveat, in most communities if there is a citizens review commission and it does have the power to sanction police it has more than likely been subverted by plants loyal to the criminal justice system. Citizen Review Commissions that have no power to halt egregious conduct are usually much more community based. We can make a difference by being active responsive citizens. We are all equally subject to abuse otherwise.
Amazingly these officers were fired promptly.
Two officers who were fired by Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd after brutally beating federal inmate Adam Tatum until his legs were broken could get their jobs back when they go before an administrative law judge.
Dodd says he'll present a case in hopes of making sure that doesn't happen.
"I'll lay the facts out and hopefully that person will look at this and say, 'It's excessive. It's outside the policies. And these officers do not need to be on the streets.' I personally would not subject the citizens of Chattanooga to these two officers and the type of action they took," Dodd told reporters during a news conference Thursday morning.
Kudos to the chief for doing the right thing. Sadly if this video was not evident than the outcome most likely would have been different. That is why it is essential we film the police.
6:41 PM PT: Apparently the police claim he pulled a knife. But since I did not see a knife in the video nor did the police use appropriate maneuvers to disarm someone holding a knife. But apparently this is pertinent although if these officers ever see a badge again they need to see some sort of training on how to appropriately disarm someone.
