Rep. Peter King (R-NY)
As near as I can tell, the answer to "
Why Peter King might run for president" is that he is an egotistical snot peeved we aren't engaging in enough wars.
His main motivation is unmistakable: pushing back against what he sees as a “dangerous” strain of isolationism that’s gaining strength in the GOP. Trips to early states like New Hampshire make him not just a “Republican congressman” in the media but also a “potential 2016 candidate” — giving him a bigger megaphone to drive his message.
In nearly a one-hour conversation with POLITICO in New Hampshire ahead of two campaign stops, King went so far as to say that the rise of anti-war voices in the GOP threatens to make Democrats the better option for voters who want a strong national defense.
The possibly-terrorist-supporting King (not the obsessively anti-efficient-lightbulb King, there are two nutcase Republicans named King) is especially peeved at Rand Paul, which is yet another thing that doesn't make him particularly stand out from dozens of other Republicans who also won't be getting elected president anytime soon. Still, he seems to be serious about running, and is putting in the necessary "get seen in New Hampshire" time in preparation for it.
We can only hope. All indications are that 2016 will be a Republican primary train wreck equal to the 2012 fiasco, and Peter King would nicely fill one of the "you've got to be kidding me" slots.
