Three children lost their parents. Dad shot mom and then himself.
The mom became famous over night back in 2008 when she attended her then 5 year old son's soccer game with a holstered pistol in full view.
You can read this sad story here. It is a 2009 story; however, one aspect of gun violence that isn't talked about very much is the murder-suicide rates in the US. I have heard story after story of this happening here in Utah. There was a really sad murder/suicide yesterday in SLC that sounds like a reflection on our inadequate health care system, especially for elders.
The gun-toting soccer mom story came to my attention via twitter and wanted to bring this to light:
Gun-toting soccer mom found shot dead
Three children age 2, 6, and 10 where home when this happened. The two older children ran out of the house yelling "Daddy shot mommy"
So tragic. Three orphaned children.
Murder suicide is becoming more and more common.
Google Search for murder suicide nets over 4,000,000 hits.
Google search for - father mom murder-suicide nets over 11,000,000 hits.
TWITTER - Use the twitter search window and enter Murder/Suicide to see how many are being reported today. Then do another twitter search for Murder-Suicide
We have a problem!
Here's an interesting question:
Why Is NBC Sports Sponsoring America’s Largest Gun Show?
While it bills itself as a huge gathering of hunting and outdoors enthusiasts, the reality is far different, according to a 2011 report from Media Matters, which sent reporters to that year’s event:
These sports are represented at SHOT, as they are in the firearms industry as a whole, but they’re vastly overshadowed by handguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, home defense shotguns and the like, along with hollow point bullets, concealed carry holsters, tactical clothing and other “personal protection” accoutrements.
