Pinch me.
At the DNC, Bill Clinton promised that it was getting better, and that we would soon start to feel it. I know he was talking about the economy, but I'm reeling from the good talk in the last few weeks.
Here are a few things that have happened since November 5th:
Romney & Ryan lost the election.
Rove looked like an idiot on national TV, and in a way that has damaged his credibility.
The Republicans folded on the fiscal cliff.
Sarah Palin has left FOX News. I actually have some respect for her ability to grift - and she was a force, albeit a dreadful one, in the 2010 elections, which as we know cost us a lot, both in the House and in many states. So although we may want to mock her, we should also recognize the serious damage she did.
FOX lost so much credibility during the election that I believe that they are lurching back from that cliff and that offering Palin a tiny contract was part of it.
The President brought up climate control and the rights of women and gays in his inaugural address.
We're finally addressing gun control. We were forced to, I know, but there were so many events in the past that should have forced us to do it, that I despaired of its ever being so.
The Republicans are talking about immigration reform. I know they're just doing this because of demographics and losses, and we still can't trust them, but immgration reform is a lot easier if some of them are on board.
The Boy Scouts are thinking of relaxing their anti-gay stance.

I know not everything is good. Gerrymandering in the states, election rigging and the seas are rising; threats against the president; the economy still sucks; infrastructure and education need serious investment; obesity is rising (and I have a hole in one of my socks).
Still, it feels as if some of the focus on crazy is ending. Just a little.
Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps you should pinch me and wake me up.
Or perhaps I should dream just a little longer.

Tired of politics? Need to escape? Try my Greek mythology based novels, either the story of Oedipus from the point of view of Jocasta, or a trilogy about Niobe, whose children were murdered by the gods - or were they?
