You're still gonna lose.
After a lot of muttering about a pending
moderate revolt among House Republicans that would force House Speaker John Boehner to pass a clean spending bill without any Obamcare poison pills, it collapsed. The House passed their bill 228-201.
This one would both delay the individual mandate in Obamacare and—this is going over well with a staff that's worked all weekend and late into tonight—strip the employer subsidy from congress and their employees. It would fund the government until December 15 at current sequester levels.
The Senate promises a quick turnaround once the House finishes. From Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's communications director:
It's taking the House hours to set up this vote, but it'll only take the Senate 15 minutes or so to reject it and send back a clean CR.
— @AJentleson
Fifteen minutes might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it will
happen within the hour. The shutdown hot potato isn't going to end up in Reid's lap.
The federal government will shut down unless the House passes a clean continuing resolution before midnight tonight. E-mail your House member now.
