In Washington, DC they debate healthcare as if the health and life of our people is just another political football to be tossed back and forth.
Those who oppose national healthcare oppose it with a passion seldom seen. They argue against 30 million people getting access to healthcare as if those 30 million were not human beings — much less fellow Americans.
How is it that the elected servants of the people — Members of Congress — act as if the health of all of us should be subject to political calculation, a wedge issue, not the life and death issue that it is?
How could a junior senator from Texas stage an all night stunt to ratchet up the politics and score political points from the richest amongst us? Our elected officials should be looking for the best and most effective way for every American to see a doctor when they need to, not suffer or die. The richest country in the history of the world has elected some of the most craven and crass political leaders in the world.
Those who pay the pious politicians who pound their chests for family values have no idea what it is to hurt and not be able to go to the doctor, or decide which pills to quit taking, or to figure out what it means to cut pills in half, to wait all night behind 70 other people in a hospital emergency room just to see a doctor.
Do you think the kooky Koch brothers or Grover Norquist have ever waited for anything when they felt bad?
America is being tested right now as She has been throughout Her history. Will good triumph? Will Her leaders find it within themselves and each other to stand for America’s people?
Will the value of America’s people come to mean as much as the money of America’s wealthiest?
