Pat Toomey objects. Of course.
Lest you think the House Republicans are causing our current national nightmare, don't forget the
Senate Republicans:
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) objected Wednesday to a Democratic proposal to fund the government and form a budget conference committee. [...]
This was the 19th time Senate Democrats have asked to form a budget conference committee.
This wasn't the budget conference committee Toomey wants. He wants the one that House Republicans want, the one that will determine funding for the next six or ten weeks or whatever. Which would probably have already lapsed by the time they got around to arranging the chairs around the conference table. That's the conference that Senate Democrats have already ruled out.
So, it's the 19th time the Senate Democrats were blocked from forming a budget conference committee. That makes for sort of a fun twist in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's offer to Speaker Boehner today, that if he'll just reopen government, he'll happily appoint budget conferees. Reid is perfectly willing to go to a full year's budget conference any time. Republicans just won't let it happen.
Tell Senate Democrats to continue to stand strong against Republican hostage-taking.
