On Monday, the House Rules Committee met to move forward with appointing conferees to meet with the Senate. During that discussion, the Rules Committee suspended the rule regarding discharge petitions, making it so that only the Speaker or his designee can bring the bill to the floor.
The video is embedded below, the pertinent discussion starts about 4:50
It's pretty clear that this was done because they know they'll lose a clean CR vote. It's pretty disgusting, it's pretty disturbing, and it shows just how far they'll go to get their way.
But it should hopefully put an end to the discharge petition discussion. There was a lengthy parliamentary inquiry on the floor of the House today regarding this rule change. It's all on Boehner now, and whether he realizes it or not, with this rule change he just ended his career. It is now completely impossible to place the blame on anyone but him, seeing as how he is the only one that can bring a clean CR to the floor.
