Despite being the preferred candidate of most Democrats in Florida’s Congressional District 13, former Governor Charlie Crist said on Thursday that he won’t be running for Bill Young’s seat in 2014.
“Not happening” is what Crist texted 10 News’ Preston Rudie late Thursday evening.
Really, there was little possibility of Crist running for Young’s seat after all of the groundwork he has laid for a gubernatorial run next year. And as I told Rudie in an interview, those who say Young’s seat would be the better place for Crist because ‘Charlie doesn’t like the governing that comes along with being governor,’ that is simply outdated thinking.
Crist was one of several high-profile names to take himself out of the running for Young’s seat on Thursday. State Senators Jeff Brandes and Jack Latvala both said they would not run in CD 13, as did County Commissioner John Morroni and State Representative Darryl Rouson.
