So, Kevin Drum is now very confused by John Boehner because the latest scuttlebutt is that:
he would be willing to violate the so-called Hastert rule if necessary to pass a debt limit increase.
but could this have been the plan all along? He may be a weak speaker, but that does not mean he is stupid necessarily. By giving the rabid right the shutdown they wanted, which - as we know - only really affects the poor people, he can use that as cover to break the Hastert rule and pass a debt limit increase, which - as we know - will affect the Wall Street types.
I will even go so far as the suggest he'll push for the debt limit increase while maintaining the need for the shutdown to continue!
Talk about having you cake and eating it! (Which can not be said for the 800,000 furloughed employees.)
